The relatives of teens lost after a devastating blaze at a bar in a Swiss ski resort are enduring an excruciating wait for official news and requesting clues about their loved ones via social media.
The fire engulfed the Le Constellation bar in the alpine resort, located in the Swiss Alps of south-west Switzerland, in the small hours of New Year's Day. Confirmed footage show the roof structure igniting as bottles with sparklers are raised in celebration.
Authorities have indicated that it could take considerable time to formally name the those who perished of the disaster, which killed four dozen individuals and hurt another over a hundred. A spokesperson said on Friday that the majority of the those hurt have been identified, with work ongoing to locate the other six.
In the waiting period, relatives have been taking to the internet to appeal for any news about their missing relatives who were at the bar that fateful night.
The fate of teenager from Switzerland Arthur Brodard, 16, are still unconfirmed, according to an public plea from his parent.
The resident of a town near Lausanne, explained to a publication that she had returned to Lausanne to check whether he was in the medical facility, while his father did the equivalent search in the capital, but did not locate him.
"I'm living a nightmare, an ordeal. The options are finding my son in the morgue, or I find him in intensive care. It's horrific," she told the paper.
She added that some of his friends had been found with injuries covering nearly half their bodies. "There are no words; they experienced a terrifying ordeal."
The Italian foreign ministry has indicated that a number of of its nationals have not been located.
One of those is Emanuele Galeppini, a 16-year-old junior golfer, originally from Genoa but now residing in Dubai.
The national sporting body has stated that he is dead, without mentioning the fire, paying tribute to a "talented young man who carried with him passion and true sportsmanship."
His parent, is quoted as saying that his son was at the bar and was last heard from around midnight. An official spokesperson has indicated that a formal confirmation of his death is not yet.
Giovanni Tamburi, 16, is likewise unaccounted for. His mother told reporters that he had been on vacation but had gone out with friends and ended up at the bar.
"Someone with him informed me they ran away after the fire started and that he had his mobile with him, but then at a certain point he they were separated," she recounted, adding he had been wearing a identifiable piece of jewelry.
One of his teachers said, "I remember his kindness and positive demeanor, alongside great maturity. He would frequently offer to get me a coffee."
Alice Kallergis, who holds both Swiss and Greek citizenship but lives permanently in the country, was also present on New Year's Eve, according to media.
Her brother has published an appeal online, saying the family has had "no news" regarding the 15-year-old or the group she was with, who are also unaccounted for.
Officials from her other nation say they are continuing to monitor the case.
